Coming Soon: The Resource Center
127 Fahm Street, Savannah
Expanding Our Reach
Rising community needs have led to increasing services.
Union Mission opened its original Day Center at Grace House more than 28 months ago and has filled a critical community need. Unsheltered homelessness was leaving many unhoused individuals with no place to go during the day. In partnership with the City of Savannah and the Chatham Savannah Authority for the Homeless, the Day Center is providing support services and warm meals for men and women seeking respite Monday – Saturday. While initially planning to serve 50 clients daily, the Day Center now averages 119 per day, with a recent record of 162. Union Mission has served 1,551 unduplicated individuals in the Day Center since opening.
In 2024, Union Mission acquired the former Family Dollar building at 127 Fahm Street to increase our capacity and impact in the face of this growing need.
Bridging Community Gaps
New building, new programs, new partnerships.
Expansion is the next step in bolstering its successful Day Center with services that provide case management, mental health counseling, workforce development, engagement, and many other wrap around services that help the homeless address barriers to employment and housing. The new Resource Center will include a Day Center, but the current center’s growth requires a strategic expansion to increase solutions and better serve our clients’ dynamic needs. This expansion will provide space to increase Union Mission’s impact and help us better collaborate and engage to offer a wide range of our own and partner services, providing holistic support that meets immediate needs and empowers people on their journey to self-sufficiency.
Emmaus House Joins Union Mission
Beginning in Spring 2026, Union Mission will welcome Emmaus House, a long-standing organization rooted in faith and service, into its expanding family of programs. Emmaus House will relocate from 18 Abercorn Street to Union Mission’s new Resource Center at 127 Fahm Street, creating a single hub for coordinated homeless services in Savannah.
This transformative partnership strengthens a shared commitment to compassion, dignity, and community impact, making it easier for individuals to access the care and resources they need.
“By joining Union Mission, a trusted and long-standing provider of housing and behavioral health services, we are creating a critical pipeline from day services to housing programs—helping bridge one of our community’s most urgent gaps”- Michael Traynor, President & CEO of Union Mission
With a transformative $1 million gift from the Parker’s Community Fund, work is already underway on UMI’s new Resource Center. This space will expand our ability to serve more neighbors experiencing homelessness, providing the tools and support they need to rebuild their lives. We’re thankful to Greg Parker and the Parker’s Kitchen team for standing alongside us as we move forward in creating a stronger, more compassionate Savannah.
