Mental Health Counseling

Sometimes it’s what’s on the inside that keeps people out on the streets.

The Counseling Center of Union Mission provides comprehensive, community-based behavioral health care to those in need. All of our counseling staff are licensed professionals able to offer an array of high-quality services in a caring and confidential manner to meet individual and family needs.

Our partners in substance use recovery

Many of our clients have endured a lifetime of trauma, abuse, and unthinkable tragedies. These experiences create seemingly unsurmountable mental health challenges. Our mental health counseling team addresses these issues and ensures short-term problems do not inhibit long-term success and stability. By providing quality mental healthcare to Savannah neighbors experiencing homelessness and extreme poverty, we empower our clients to increase resilience, engage in the community, and access their full potential.

SERVICES PROVIDED:

• Individual Counseling: Clients meet for a weekly one-hour session in which counselors focus on providing clients with the coping skills and tools necessary to support their journey to self-sufficiency.

• Group Counseling: Group sessions provide dynamic psychoeducation for clients, a safe space to share their stories, a place for community support, understanding, and guidance from the facilitator.

• Psychiatric Services: Provides 22 monthly hours of psychiatric services for mental health evaluations, diagnoses, and medication plans.

• Medication Support: Provides financial assistance to clients each year for psychiatric medication purchases.

Recovery Together: New Support Groups Empower Residents

Over the past few years, Union Mission has increased and diversified the support groups offered in our counseling center and on program campuses. Support groups provide an approachable space for clients to process their mental health and addiction with peers. Groups can act as a first step for clients into mental health services or additional support between counseling sessions.

Utilizing a group format promotes accountability and strengthens the peer relationships needed to maintain mental health outcomes. Clients engaged in groups often progress more quickly with the encouragement of positive relationships. Union Mission increased groups based on the need and created the “On a Mission Substance Abuse Group” that has supported substance abuse recovery on campus. Other topics include addressing trauma, anger management, and emotional detox.
