KICKS OFF BECOME A PART OF THE WORK OF UNION MISSION

I was recently asked to speak to the women’s group at Isle of Hope United Methodist Church on how my faith and work intersect. Preparing my talk allowed for a time of reflection.

Certainly, commonly asked questions for many of us pertain to life’s meaning of why we are here or why we do what we do. I was at a point in my own life with those questions in my 30’s and decided to return to church after a 20-year absence. Being an accountant, I was almost immediately asked to be the volunteer Treasurer and thus began my work in the world of non-profits. I found when I became involved with helping others; a lot of my questions about life’s meaning went away because I was involved with something greater than myself.

My faith and career intersect because I can use my business education and experience in a non-profit organization that helps others. This has brought meaning and purpose to my life.

Maybe being involved with a non-profit is something you want to do. I invite you to become a part of the work of Union Mission, whether that be through volunteering, advocacy or donations, both financial or of goods and/or services. I can tell you from personal experience, giving of your time or treasure is something you will never regret. The rewards not only make a positive impact on yourself but your community as well.
