Getting back on your feet takes help. The Employment Training & Counseling (ETC) program prepares homeless and at-risk clients to obtain stable employment through mental health support and workforce development training. By providing support for clients to build and develop their skills, ETC helps clients overcome barriers to employment success.

MENTAL HEALTH JOB READINESS ASSESSMENT

In order to connect clients with the program that will help meet their needs, clients receive a full mental health job readiness assessment with the support of licensed professional counselor. The assessment includes job skills, work history, mental health, and substance abuse history. After the assessment is completed, clients are referred to appropriate resources including mental health counseling, employment coordination, or a combination of supports to help them transition to work readiness and safe stable housing.

COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING

The Counseling Center of Union Mission provides comprehensive, community-based behavioral health care to those in need. All of our counseling staff are licensed professionals able to offer an array of high quality services in a caring and confidential manner to meet individual and family needs.

Fees for Services: The agency recognizes the added challenges of people living in difficult economic times and accepts clients on a sliding fee scale adjusted to an individual’s or family’s size and financial situation. 

CULINARY ARTS TRAINING

The Culinary Arts Program is taught by the professional kitchen staff that runs our commercial kitchen. This free 8-week skill building program provides structured, hands-on culinary training that will help clients obtain stable employment in area restaurants and with food service providers.  Upon successful completion of the program clients receive a ServSafe Certification and participate in a graduation ceremony to mark their achievement. Graduates also receive job placement support and life skills supportive services.

EMPLOYMENT COORDINATION

Poverty and homelessness are inextricably linked. Union Mission employment coordinators work with clients and their case managers to assess barriers to stable employment. Clients then receive support in identifying and applying for jobs.

LIFE SKILLS SUPPORTIVE SERVICES

The life skills supportive services program provides short-term skill-building on a variety of subjects such as resume writing, interview skills, and more. The focus is on teaching skills that will help clients get and keep stable employment.
