Growing Hope

The Growing Hope Initiative provides alternative programming for those impacted by homelessness. Activities are centered around creative community,  confidence building, self-reliance, and sometimes, a little old-fashioned entrepreneurialism.

Homeless and at-risk individuals are offered opportunities to learn about and create a broad variety of arts and crafts and learn entrepreneurial skills. The goal of the programming is to use expressive arts as a vehicle to support and enhance the transition from homelessness and poverty to self-sufficiency. Participants are able to express themselves through their arts and crafts, gain confidence, build a stronger sense of community, and possibly supplement their income.

Artisans Cooperative: Offers arts and craft exposure, support and entrepreneurial experience to individuals interested in arts and crafts who are also impacted by homelessness. Your purchase of a piece of art or craftsmanship provides financial support to the artists themselves as well as to the Cooperative.  Current artisan work features unique pieces of both fine and fabric arts.

Seeing Art:  In addition to original art pieces, greeting cards and hand-made stationary are available for purchase.  To view art, please contact Teri Schell at tschell@unionmission.org, 236-7423.

Through the Garden of Hope project, relaxing and interactive green space surrounds Union Mission clients.  Horticultural activities offered by Garden Coordinator Susan Hudspeth invites hands-on participation or simple sensory enjoyment to individuals and families receiving services at Health services campuses of Union Mission.
